What to Wear
Posture therapy relies on visual clues from the body to determine proper alignment. For this, we need to be able to see your neck and shoulders, hips, knees, and feet. To accommodate this, we suggest wearing:
-
A comfortable T-shirt
Postural photos and gait analysis will benefit from having your shirt tucked in. - Either shorts, or pants that can be rolled up to show the knees
-
Gym shoes—preferably ones that lace up
Most exercises are done in socks, though some make use of lace-up gym shoes. -
A hair tie
Postural photos and gait analysis will benefit from having long hair pulled up; floor exercises may be more comfortable without.
Equipment
Foam Blocks
In-clinic sessions use custom-made foam blocks as the basis for postural exercises. Specifically engineered, these blocks facilitate optimal alignment of the body for stationary exercises and for guided movement.
-
Large Block:
24" x 18" x 14"
- 18" is generally used for performing Static Back.
-
Small Block:
12" x 10" x 6"- 6" is generally used for keeping knees at hip width.
- 12" is generally used for keeping arms at shoulder width.
For at-home sessions, look for similarly sized items to fill these roles. Be creative, and let us know what you come up with! Here are a few suggestions:
-
Large Block
A sofa, an ottoman, a firm bed, or a padded chair
Standard chair height is around 18". -
Small Block
A folded pillow or a yoga block wrapped in a towel for cushion
