What is Posture Alignment Therapy?
Posture Alignment Therapy is a natural, holistic approach to eliminating pain by targeting structural imbalances in the body and restoring proper joint function. Treatment involves a sequence of therapeutic exercises and stretches (which we call your "Menu of Exercises") tailored to each individual's specific problem areas. By addressing the root causes of postural dysfunction, posture alignment therapy reduces pain, enhances performance, and helps prevent future injuries.
How does Posture Alignment relieve pain?
The body is interconnected, and pain can be reflected in an area other than where the root cause lies. Typically, pain comes from imbalances within the body.
- Imbalances can stem from an old injury, hours of sitting behind a desk or in a car, or airplane; or repetitive movements that we all do unconsciously.
- Sitting with our legs crossed, leaning into the console of our favorite sofa arm, and even the way we stand can cause problems over time.
- Sometimes, imbalance is the result of a postural dysfunction such as scoliosis, or surgery, that leaves behind adhesions and scar tissue.
Postural imbalances can cause pain, sleeplessness, physical limitations, and distrust of your body's capability. Long-term pain can create a fear cycle that not only limits your physical well-being but also your mental well-being.
So, to determine the actual source of pain, or to head it off before it becomes an issue, we start by analyzing your overall posture for imbalances.
What is Postural Analysis?
Postural analysis entails:
- Taking postural photos (and comparing these from session to session)
- Hip joint palpation and observation
- Gait analysis
With these tools, we can confidently pinpoint areas where your body compensates for poor posture, allowing us to identify the root cause of your underlying pain and discomfort—and take corrective action!
* Gait analysis is a diagnostic tool that allows us to identify muscle imbalances and improper joint function while in motion.
How does Posture Alignment Therapy differ from Chiropractic Therapy?
Unlike chiropractors, posture alignment therapists do not administer "hands on" therapy. Instead, we instruct clients in a series of personalized exercises tailored to their specific postural dysfunctions. These exercises emphasize the deeper muscles of the axial skeleton and pelvis, as well as the more superficial muscles, and are designed to strengthen the body functionally. Performing these exercises daily (or more, if you like!) puts control over your health back into your own hands.
Who can benefit from Posture Alignment Therapy?
We've had the pleasure of helping individuals ranging from 3 years old to 90 years young!
Our services cater to anyone experiencing pain, chronic discomfort, occasional discomfort, or simply those seeking posture improvement for its own sake.
Our diverse clientele includes: professional athletes seeking performance enhancement, weekend warriors aspiring to remain pain-free, business professionals with frequent travel commitments, parents balancing full-time households, and many other individuals looking to enhance their quality of life.
What equipment will I need at home?
The equipment requirements for posture alignment therapy are fairly minimal. Our in-clinic sessions generally utilize yoga mats, a large foam block, a couple of small foam blocks, a yoga strap, and, occasionally, a slant board. Some exercises may also call for resistance bands or other easily accessible items.
With a little creativity, you should be able to find household substitutes for most of what you'll need for at-home exercises. (Check out the Tips page for more details.) Or, should you prefer the convenience of specialized equipment, our clinic stocks most of these items for purchase.
How much is the program?
Consultations are always free. A new client's first visit is $250. Most clients opt to upgrade to one of our more economical packages after their first session. The 8-session package is $1,495. This package is limited to use by a single client, however it can be upgraded to a 16-session package within the first few visits. The 16-session package is $2,495 and can be shared with friends and family members.
Most people are excited to get started on their path back to a pain-free, active lifestyle! Please contact us to help you decide which package works best for you.
How many sessions will I need?
Posture Alignment Therapy is a gradual process aimed at addressing your pain and improving your overall body alignment and strength. Initially, our goal is to alleviate your pain. Once pain is managed, we focus on straightening and strengthening your body to prevent the pain from recurring. Throughout this process, you'll regain function, strength, and balance.
We provide personalized 8 and 16-session packages to accommodate individual needs, recognizing that each person's journey is unique. Upon completion of the program, we recommend transitioning into a maintenance program to monitor for any emerging dysfunctions, especially if you're looking to increase your physical activity.
How frequently are sessions needed?
The program is most effective when sessions are schedule on a weekly basis, at least to start. This allows Kristina to get continuous feedback from your body and make the needed adjustments to maintain positive progress in your therapy. As your body starts to settle into its proper position and your symptoms subside, you may choose to spread out your appointments to every other week, or so, to best fit your schedule. How long this will take depends on the severity of your dysfunction, as well as how quickly your body responds to treatment.
Can I use health insurance to pay for sessions?
Our practice prioritizes identifying and addressing the root cause of underlying issues rather than just treating symptoms. Unfortunately, this does not align well with what health insurance companies typically cover. That said, we are happy to provide invoices and any other documentation you may need for submission directly to your health care provider for potential reimbursement. Additionally, you may be able to utilize funds from an FSA or HSA, if applicable.
Are referral benefits offered?
Most of our clients find us through referrals! It makes us feel good about what we do and it makes potential, new clients feel more at ease about giving Posture Alignment Therapy a try. It can be hard to get started, but the results do speak for themselves.
If you refer someone to us and they buy an 8 or 16-sessions package, we'll thank you with a free session! Use it for yourself, gift it to a friend or family member, or pay it forward.
